Sample Essays: Exploring Verb Consistency and Cohesion of Ideas

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Sample essays serve as best proof of the competencies of an essay writing services provider. From these samples, students who turn to custom research papers can definitely make an educated conclusion that they are hiring an experienced provider.

When perusing those sample essay writing materials, students need to look out for two important things:

Verb-Tense Agreement

The verb-tense agreement should be consistent all throughout the essay. Writers must handle verb tense carefully as they represent a shift in temporal events of different narrated situations. A consistent and clear tense is a must for all writers. This reflects their grasp of the language.

A primary tense helps writers focus on the main course, while the occasional shifts to other tenses can be used to show time frame changes. Writers shift tense to show a change in time from one state or action to another. Experienced ones usually use present tense to discuss ideas, state facts and identify habitual or continuous actions. Past tense is used to state events and mention an author of the author’s ideas as historical entities. Writers use the future tense to denote a future action, which can be conveyed in various ways such as “shall,” “will” and other adverbs of time. Writers also use other tenses in conjunction with other tenses.

Logical Discussion

A coherent flow of ideas helps an essay standout. Professors love an essay that exhibits a logical structure of concept or concepts. Most of the time students have difficulty in tying things together and eventually get lost in the myriad of ideas they want to talk about.

Cohesion also means the readers understand the connections and relationships of ideas. There are ‘cohesive devices’ that writers adopt. These include specific types of words and phrases. Without these cohesive devices, the writing would not flow naturally and would be prone to unnecessary repetition.

By taking note of these two basic principles, students can determine if the sample essays forwarded to them by an essay provider are well written.

Make that Essay Shocking

Friday, September 5th, 2008

There is no established rule that states that essays should always be serious, yet far too many people write about subjects that are too boring, predictable and stiff. True, as students, people are taught about the old method of writing essays, which, quite frankly, have no lasting value to writers and readers. Times have changed, and along with it, the way people write essays as well as why people write essays. In this generation when nothing seems to be new anymore under the sun, an individual must write something that is worthy of readers’ attention.

A writer must feel free to tackle controversial issues, for some of the most enjoyable works are those that challenge accepted beliefs and assumptions. Why discuss something everybody agrees on? Such topic has already lost its flavor on people, because its argument and conclusion is predictable. When expressing one’s take on controversial issues, one must be honest to tell the truth as he sees it. His aim should be to shed new light on difficult topics.

When it comes to structure, essays need not follow the formal intro-body-conclusion structure. Such structure will work for grade school students but not for someone who wants to make an impact. There will come a time when a writer has to deviate from that structure in order to put more emphasis on the content of his essay. Essays are perfect means to express rebellion or displeasure. Strong words and bizarre ideas may stir up controversy, but they will also change lives, and even history.
